So I saw Half Blood Prince and . . .

Thu Jul 16, 2009, 7:04 AM
... dammit now I'm all obsessed with Severus Snape again!

I suppose that fanart will be forthcoming at some point.

And now I need to go to the library and see if the Order of the Phoenix DVD is still available since I never watched it.

And maybe I'll have to reconsider my vow to avoid reading the books since I am naturally suspicious of most things that are supersaturated pop culture...

Dang and blast. :P

Masters of Gender Switchery

Aka - my feature for the winners of :iconphantom-of-da-opera:'s Gender Bender Phanart Contest!

In First Place, we have :iconsilverdrgnbane:'s impressive comic entry, featuring foreshoretening, facial expressions, and sound-effects action! I have to say, femme Raoul is rather scary somehow. I think it's that wide-eyed expression...

In Second Place, :icondarthxerik: puts a great spin on the Final Lair scene from ALW's stage show. I really love the way the deformity, including the thinning hair, was rendered.

Great job and congratulations to both!

Now... *rubs hands together and plots for 'Super Phantom'*

Mwahahahah...

Phantom Art Feature

Mon Apr 20, 2009, 9:21 AM
Seeing as I am now in my 15th year of being a phan of The Phantom of the Opera, it seems only natural that I do a journal feature of Phantom fanart!

Of course I know many fine phan artists and it was difficult to decide how to go about doing this journal, but in the end I settled on a choosing pieces that appeal to my personal aesthetic tastes, whether or not they may be popular or underexposed. I have chosen to select only one piece per artist, but please do not feel offended if you or your favorite artist is not represented! I love looking at phanart and I applaud everyone who takes the time to produce works about this wonderful story. :)

Traditional Painting Feature

Mon Apr 13, 2009, 6:56 AM
As promised, here is the first of what will (hopefully) be a series of art features I do while I have my subscription.

It seems like in this day of Wacoms and OpenCanvas and all the wonders afforded to artists by digital technology, traditional painting can sometimes get overlooked. I myself prefer to work in non-digital media, so it is always gratifying to run across pieces done with old school techniques and materials. So here is a selection of pieces that I think exhibit some of the best qualities of traditional painting.

Enjoy!

Subscrip-fun!

So, as part of my prize package from having placed Second in the :iconphantom-of-da-opera: 'Somewhere in Time' contest, :iconpoetic-dragon: made me this awesome little stamp, which I can now post thanks to the three-month subscription that came with it!

How very cool!

I'm going to try to do some art features as long as I have the sub, so keep your eyes on this space. :D
