Vanitas - SPG Fanbot Design by MadameGiry Vanitas - SPG Fanbot Design by MadameGiry
So I finally decided to sit down and design a Steam Powered Giraffe 'fanbot' character that I could eventually turn into a cosplay for attending conventions and concerts with other SPG fans.

Behold, 'Vanitas'. She ended up looking a lot like Baron Samedi, which was not entirely intentional - but I did want my fanbot to have a rather ghoulish, skull-like face. That, and given my love of top hats and tails, and well, there you have it. Her faceplate, vertebrae, ribcage, and fingernails are silver metal. The blue cords in her hair, her 'earrings', and her eyes are illuminated with blue light (or "Blue Matter" as the SPG canon would call it).

The name 'Vanitas' is Latin for 'vanity', and also applies to a school of art imagery in which skulls are superimposed with objects of wealth and luxury to remind viewers that earthly possessions and pleasures are temporary, and death is inevitable.

Hopefully it won't be too long before I can finish the actual costume and share it! :)

There is a steampunk character making the rounds at the east coast steampunk conventions. His name is Deacon De'Kay. Very, very similar to yours. Been around for couple years now. Top hat , skull face, tails etc. :(

Hello! Thank you for the heads up. I did a bit of rooting around the aetherweb for information about this fellow and although he appears to have been active and even had a profile page on The Steampunk Empire, he seems to have disappeared.

In any case, as I suggested, the design itself isn't terribly unique/original. Similarities are bound to happen - and hopefully cause no offense. :)
