When infiltrating a secret government-run scientific research facility a decade ago, Chantal Giry happened upon Test Subject #OG-5, a mutant known only as Erik. Moved by the deplorable conditions of his confinement, she freed him. Later, he revealed that he did not remember how long he had been kept there, only that his family had sold him to the lab when he was an infant because of his mutation. For years he was kept chained and locked away in solitary confinement, and only escorted out of his cell under heavy sedation for tests and experiments.
Now, she and Erik have formed a mutually protective, younger brother-and-older sister type relationship. She has attempted to rehabilitate and train him, both intellectually and physically, but he remains suspicious of humans and society. Together, they work to seek out and aid other captive and abused mutants, but will not shy away from helping humans when needed.
My entry for 's Superhero Phantom contest.
This was a hell of a lot of fun to do, with me trying a style that was more painting and less drawing. I'm pretty happy with how the characters came out and it's possible that these two will make an appearance in future works.
